Do-do-do-do-doooo-do-do-do-do-dooo-do-do. I love your smile… Remember that? 1991 apparently.
A smile goes a long way. Well today it got me through 5K. Oh god not another smug little post about running again…. Well not really.
The Panshanger Park Run is amazing but the one thing that made the difference to me today as I am sure it does everyone was the Marvellous Marshalls.
At every corner there is a smile beaming more brightly than the flouro jacket they stand in. Shining out like a little beacon of hope, lifting your spirits, literally pushing (or in my case dragging) you along.
How bloody lovely of them to stand out usually in the middle of a cold muddy field offering you support and a smile. So thank goodness for all those lovely Marshalls!! I Love Your Smile – I had to look up who sang that. Do-do-do-do-doooo-do-do-do-do-dooo-do-do. Btw it was Shanice…… Nope rang no bell with me neither!
When you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you.
Louis Armstrong had a point with his song. Smiling, laughing, it can be contagious. In a study by some clever Swedish scientists they found that people found it harder to frown when looking at subjects smiling. So smiling is catching!!! We can lift peoples spirits through a smile.
Smile though your Heart is Breaking – Nat King Cole
In fact the simple act of smiling can make us feel happy even when we are not. Our bodies release endorphins when you smile – even when you force a smile making you feel better and less stressed. The smile wakes up the frontal cortex of the brain which is the area that triggers happiness!!
Do not smile because it is over, smile because it happened. Dr Suess
Smile – Lily Allen
Frowning? What’cha do that for-o-o? What’cha, you get my drift but I loved that song when it came out.
This smiling business. It is hardly a workout. It takes 43 muscles to frown but only 17 to smile so even the lazy should be smiling! A smile can be recognised up to 300 feet away making it the most easily recognisable facial expression.
Smile. It’s free therapy
Who needs make-up when a smile has been proven in a study (okay by a toothpaste company) that 69% of people found a smile more attractive than when a woman was wearing make-up. Firstly no amount of smiling will hide the bags under my eyes so I will still go with make-up and a smile. Secondly I know I should not but haha 69%. I know I need to grow up but hehehe. And today in the Park Run I came 69th…. Made me smile!
Smile like you Mean It – The Killers
Anyway what I am trying to say is let us all try and smile more. There are loads more smile facts I could tell you about – boosting the immune system, lowering blood pressure, a natural high, look younger live longer but basically let us all SMILE!
One last thing. Apparently we are getting it all wrong saying Cheeeeeeeese. If we say Cheeks it creates the perfect smile lifting up the cheeks on the ‘k’ which makes our eyes sing out!!!
But the point of this post is it costs nothing but can achieve so much. So let us all smile more.
We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do. Mother Teresa
