All Grown Up
I do not mean to gloat or anything but bear with me whilst I rub my hallway IN YOUR FACE!!
My hallway is basically the best. For starters isn’t Charlie the bestest Labradoodle you ever did see. My big old boy was 10 last week. The hallway is his kingdom – can you tell? I have had a little word in his ear that if he continues to rub his beard on any wall corner he will be banished to the utility room forever more. So far, so good. We are still friends.
It is the bestest friggin’ hallway that ever did exist. Just saying.
Seriously though I feel so grown up! As some of you know I like a good old swear but this is one F word I rarely use. Aged 41 I have Finished. (*Unless it is pudding, I always finish pudding)
When it comes to Interiors I am – as my Insta handle suggests – a bit wham bam thank you maam. I throw everything at life In No Particular Order. @inpolife
Most of you who have had an extension will know that afterwards there is no money. Usually whilst it is happening there is also no money. We have had three extensions on this house. I kept having babies and houses are off the scale expensive. So there was a lot of make do. Carpets that were supposed to be down 6 months – a year max have been down 12 years!! This hallway though. It had the holy grail. The B word. A Budget. Now the budget for the hallway was not a bottomless pit but for the first time ever there was a budget.
We got a decorator. When saying Decorator I want you to use the Movie announcer voice in your head.
The Decorator. He was that good.
This was the first time we had paid for a decorator because we can do it ourselves can’t we?! Er no. I can splash a bit of paint on quite nicely but I do not make the walls looks show home standard. I am never decorating again. Money well spent. When others had decorators I honestly thought they were dead rich and a bit wasteful. I judged. I was wrong.
Paint choices were Dulux Denim Drift – Colour of 2017 so say Dulux and I have to admit it is incredible. Statement walls a gogo. The rest of the walls are in Farrow & Ball Cabbage White.
There was only one place to go for lampshades. If you have not heard of lovefrankie.com then where the hell have you been? They were brilliant as I simply could not decide as the carpet choices kept changing. They do coloured cord which I was crushagrape excited about. Do not even get me started on their lamp bases!?! lovefrankie.com will be part of every single room design here on.
Something I had always wanted was a Neon sign and I know Next and other retailers offer off the peg designs but I had something in my head so went to the amazing Bagandbones who were so brilliant to work with and it is not as much as you might think to get a bespoke design. It started off as Team Neave but that broke the budget (as in Mr INPO went stoney faced on me) so we went for Neave and I am so glad we did because I think we would have lit up the whole of Hertfordshire otherwise. My hallway makes me smile. I love that.
The trunks are from La Redoute which when they have one of their 40% off weeks means they are a complete bargain. There is 40% off until midnight Thurs if you fancy anything. The bright pink ties in with the light cord. I know – this was actually thought out!!
At the weekend in the sunshine I painted a piece of furniture we had shoved at the back of the shed. I want to be able to tell you what it is called but it is part table, part seat. If you know what this is called then let me know!! The paint was drying so quickly I got three coats on in two hours. Then had a lightbulb moment and my Ikea sheepie cushion cover fitted the seat pad exactly!!! No sewing and I am sorry but look at it!!!! Have you ever seen a more beautiful thingymebob? It fits in the space exactly. On the look out for great looking faux Monstera leaves now and should have waiting til I got some to take this picture but I was too excited!!
Finally can we just talk about carpet. Carpet. Who knew carpet was so bloody expenisve?? Firstly I had a vision of geometric patterned carpet in a teal colour but my family need to eat. Then I thought a wow colour. Nope. Still costly! Holiday? Carpet? Holiday? Carpet? So we have comprised with holiday to Devon or somewhere in UK and carpet.
I went for a supersoft slightly shiny (sounds terrible) and this is the first time we have had decent carpet. I am talking about carpet you just want to lay on and do carpet angels.
So for now, I give you – The INPO Hallway. It may not be the biggest in the world and over time I will bring myself to put nails in the smooth walls and hang some of my prints but for now this is it. Who knew a hallway would make me so happy.
Hope you like it. There is one problem with doing a room and doing it properly – the rest of the house looks shite!!!
